Differentiation between "Bullying", "Conflicts", "Mean" Behavior, and "Rude" Behavior
Intended Audiences - Parents, Educators, and Administrators
By the end of the presentations, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the difference between "rude" and "mean" behaviors, “bullying” and “conflicts”
2. Gain suggestions for system-wide interventions
3. The key parts of bullying/student conflict investigations
4. Practical solutions for resolving reports
Keynote Option:
The buzzword “bullying” has seemingly become a scapegoat to describe basic human emotions when someone feels hurt, upset or disrespect from another person’s actions. Many times, however, the situation boils down to people who do not have the skills to either appropriately de-escalate difficult situations or lack the ability to assert themselves appropriately. In this timely and humorous presentation, Matt discusses over a decade’s worth of experience in dealing with true bullying and conflict situations.
Workshop Option:
The goal of this workshop is to guide participants through a step-by-step process of completing a thorough Bullying/Student Conflict investigation. Matt walks through each step of the process, explaining why each section was included in his investigation form. He includes real-life scenarios and experiences to show how his system of addressing these issues was created. Most importantly, practical solutions for addressing situations are also provided.
