A Data-Driven, Holistic Approach to School Counseling

Intended Audiences - Educators and Administrators

By the end of the presentations, participants will be able to:

1. Discuss the main parts of a comprehensive school counseling program

2. Understand the importance of vision, mission and goal statements

3. Consider ways of using perception, process, and outcome data

Keynote Option:

A general overview of what a comprehensive school counseling program should look like according to the American School Counselor Association National Model. This presentation includes the discussion of creating effective vision statements, mission statements and SMART goals, the use of data to drive programs, consultation and collaboration, the importance of multicultural considerations, advocating for the role of the school counselor and their students...and much more!

Workshop Option:

1) Creating a solid foundation

Matt will discuss the importance of forming a solid program foundation that is aligned with the counselor, school, and district vision and mission statements for students. Time will also be spent helping participants understand and create SMART goals.

2) Using Data to Drive Your Program

Accountability is now "king" in showing the important role that Professional School Counselors play in student success. This workshop helps participants understand and consider the three types of data (perception, process, and outcome) that drive comprehensive school counseling programs.

3) Using Technology for Program Management

“I just don’t have time” is a typical response of school counselors when asked why they are not able to implement the ASCA National Model. Technology can be a driving force in helping Professional School Counselors manage an effective program. The best part is that many of the tools out there are FREE! This workshop is designed to help introduce a variety of ideas and tools that can help school counselors shift from providing “guidance” to a comprehensive program.

Comments from previous participants:

"This was the most useful presentation of the entire three day conference. Matt was a great presenter, who kept the audience engaged and interested the whole time. His use of humor was refreshing after listening to so many PowerPoint presentations. There is no doubt that he knows how to run a comprehensive school counseling program, and I strive to be able to reach that level."

"This guy is on fire and on point! Definitely plumping up my technology to assist with data collection to

further drive my program. Way to go Matt!"

"This may have been the most beneficial session I attended during the 3-day conference! The presenter was wonderful --very energetic, very knowledgeable, and his information was very useful!"
