Implementing Restorative Justice with Student Leaders

Intended Audiences - Students, Educators, and Administrators

By the end of the presentations, participants will be able to:

1. Understand the basic idea of Restorative Practices

2. Discuss ways to begin implementing Restorative Practices in their agency

3. Create a plan for using Restorative Practices in their agency

Keynote Option:

Participants of this presentation learn about Restorative Justice practices and receive suggestions on how they can incorporate them into their classroom/school/agency. Rather than using punishment or punitive consequences for inappropriate behavior, restorative practices focus on empathy building and repairing relationships. Participants will receive a basic overview of what Restorative Justice is as well as an overview of Dr. Tolliver's Peer Court and Restorative Practices Implementation Toolkit.

Workshop Option:

This workshop is offered to either adults who will be supervising a Restorative Justice Peer Court or the students who will be serving as Peer Court members.

For Adults:

The focus of this workshop is to guide participants through Dr. Tolliver's Peer Court and Restorative Practices Implementation Toolkit: Second Edition. This hands-on and interactive workshop takes participants through the entire implementation manual. Groups of 10-20 are most manageable for this option. This commitment for this option can be accomplished in one day.

For Students:

If you are interested in the student workshop, you will be responsible for selecting 8-10 students to participate prior to the workshop. Also with this option, one or more adults who will be serving as the supervisor are also required to attend. It is recommended that a two-day commitment be made for this workshop.
